To Whom It May Concern:

There is so much good to say about Steve Catapano as a tennis instructor that it’s hard to know where to start, so I’ll just make a list of the facets that are important to anyone learning to play or to anyone who wants to improve their existing game:

First:  Steve is a talented tennis player with exceptional foot speed, soft hands, intelligent strategies, and rarely seen (these days) sportsmanship.

Second: Steve is a talented instructor who is able to find ways to help each student progress, regardless of their level, their innate athleticism or their individual age.  If one particular stroke or strategy doesn’t click with a student, he looks for alternate ways of describing or showing the student what is desired.  This is a rare but critical skill when teaching difficult-to-master techniques like an American kick serve.

Third:  Steve focuses on each student’s stroke production.  In other words, lessons are comprised primarily of hitting rather than endless explanations.  In this way, the student leaves each lesson having gained something tangible, something they can practice in preparation for their next lesson.

Fourth: Steve has classic pitch-perfect strokes which means the student will be modeling flawless strokes.

Fifth: Steve’s tennis etiquette is also classic, ensuring that younger students will see and hear sportsmanship of the first order.

Sixth: Steve constantly encourages his students to strive toward higher levels of play.

Seventh:  Steve is inclusive and works to get players of similar levels together so they can enjoy more match play.

In summary, Steve is a wonderful instructor and I wish he was still here in Arizona.  All of us who took lessons and drill classes from him gained wonderful skills as a result of his methods.  We miss him.

Sincerely,

Susan Johnson
